ROBERTO BERMUDEZ, PTA PROGRAM DIRECTOR, Professor

Roberto Bermudez, PT, PhD, is a registered Physical Therapist with a Master of Science in Health Management and a PhD in Neuropsychology. Since assuming the role as Program Director he has also completed PhD level courses in educational theory, curriculum development and teaching methodology. Roberto has taught various courses as an adjunct faculty member in different organizations of higher education such as Barry University and University of Miami – Koubek Center. Roberto has been a member of APTA/FPTA since 1985. He possesses a long clinical trajectory that involved multiple supervisory roles that has provided ample opportunities to experience performance evaluations and work with programmatic and individual outcomes assessments. Being a practicing physical therapist for the last 23 years, Roberto has gained experience working with a variety of patient populations in the acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, outpatient, and home health settings. In his experience as a Clinical Instructor for PT’s and PTA’s, Roberto has had experience with identifying performance deficits and unsafe practices of students within the physical therapy setting. He has also had to evaluate students to determine their readiness to enter the profession of physical therapy during terminal clinical experience instruction. He maintains clinical expertise through a wide variety of continuing education courses. Up until April 2010, Roberto was an active practicing clinician within the community.

EILEEN GARAY, ACCE, Professor

Eileen Garay, PT, CCI, Certified Vestibular Specialist is a licensed PT in the state of Florida who has been practicing as a physical therapist for the last 14 years. Eileen has been a guest lecturer at Florida International University for Vestibular Rehabilitation as well as an assistant instructor at Nova Southeastern University where she helped with the delivery of the Neuro-Rehabilitation course. Eileen has been a member of APTA/FPTA since 1995 and Vestibular Disorders Association (VEDA) since 2007. She has also completed various levels of certification on Vestibular Rehabilitation such as Certified in Vestibular Rehabilitation Advances in 2009, Cervicogenic Dizziness in 2006 and Vestibular Rehabilitation in 2003. Since 2009 Eileen is pursuing her PhD in Physical Therapy at Nova Southeastern University with an anticipated completion date of 2013. On 2004 Eileen completed the Clinical Instructor Workshop Certification with the University of Miami. Through direct patient care, Eileen has 14 years of patient and caregiver education in wide variety of clinical scope of practice. Eileen maintains an active clinical role in the OP department at Mercy Hospital.
